Only $4000 / year?

The Register is reporting that programmers with a college degree earn 'only' $4000 more per year more than coders with no degree. The implication is that with the cost of college you are better off just learning to code and getting a job. Are they kidding?! We can make a lot of assumptions that probably aren't true but 4 grand is still a lot of money. And you will likely be making more money every year! You will likely recover multiples of that college investment over your work life. But the real payback comes if you take advantage of, and accomplish the main goal of a liberal education, the ability to think! Imagine what that could do for your earnings.
